Walmart, a US-based retail giant, plans to bring one lakh more MSMEs under its supplier development programme named ‘Walmart Vriddhi<\/a>‘ in the next three years in India, as per company’s press statement on June 19, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Walmart Vriddhi’ has partnered with Ideas to Impact Foundation (i2i) to help facilitate more MSMEs to expand their access to both national and international markets with assistance of Walmart’s global supply chain and Flipkart’s e-commerce facilitation centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the statement Senior Vice President of Supplier Development, Sourcing at Walmart International, Jason Fremstad, said, “We are very excited to announce today that we have partnered with Ideas to Impact Foundation to empower an additional 1,00,000 MSMEs over the next three years under the next phase of the Walmart Vriddhi Programme”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the flip side, the programme will help the Bentonville-headquartered retail company ‘Walmart’ strengthen its supply chain from India for its global operations earlier earmarked for $10 billion worth of exports per year by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are also extending our market support for Indian MSMEs by expanding access to market linkages both nationally and internationally through the Flipkart and Walmart marketplaces,” Fremstad said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under their Indian MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) support programme in areas of critical skills and market access, Walmart has helped scale their businesses sustainably leading to India’s economic growth story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, Walmart Vriddhi – launched in 2019 – has trained over 70,000 MSMEs as of date by facilitating access to digital commerce, and enabling personalised mentorship and strategic partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Walmart and Flipkart-devised programme in collaboration with implementing partner Ideas to Impact Foundation will benefit participants through access, outreach and programme management expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Flipkart is no behind with its fledgling initiative named “Samarth” targeted at empowering Indian artisans, weavers, and micro-enterprises by providing them with a platform to reach a wider audience and grow their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Flipkart app has a dedicated landing page allowing customers to explore the products made by Indian artisans and weavers,” Business Standard quoted Rajneesh Kumar, SVP and chief corporate affairs officer at Flipkart Group as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Through strategic collaborations like Walmart Vriddhi, we are collectively enabling entrepreneurs to scale their aspirations and significantly contribute to India’s burgeoning digital economy,” Kumar added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It might be mentioned that Walmart sourced over $30 billion worth of goods from the Indian market in the last 20 years for its global operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walmart has been in India for over 25 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
