In the run up to the vice-presidential elections on September 9, several big names have been floated by both the INDIA bloc and the NDA alliance. Among the potential candidates, two nominees, namely B. Sudershan Reddy and CP Radhakrishnan, have reportedly made the cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday (August 17, 2025), the BJP parliamentary board had drawn a consensus on the nomination of Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan for the upcoming VP polls. The BJ-led NDA parliamentary board meet was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the NDA Parliamentary meet held in New Delhi, PM Modi appealed to the Opposition bloc to lend support to its candidate. He also said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is in “continuous discussion with everyone” to seek consensus on the NDA candidate for the VP post in order to ensure that the new Rajya Sabha chairman is elected through the common committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the Congress-led INDIA bloc on Tuesday (August 19) has unanimously chosen Retired Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy as the candidate for the VP elections. The decision comes two days after the ruling NDA fielded its candidate for the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the press conference today in New Delhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “The decision was taken unanimously and the VP contest is an ideological battle, and the opposition parties agreed on the nomination of B. Sudershan Reddy as the candidate”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to another report, the AAP has extended its support to INDIA bloc nominee despite it not being part of the bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
