A 68-year-old NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan is all set to succeed former VP Jagdeep Dhankhar to the post of Vice President. Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan made it through the VP election held on September 10, 2025, scoring 452 first preference votes, defeating Opposition candidate and retired Supreme Court Judge B Sudarshan Reddy who managed to bag just 300 first preference votes.
Out of the 754 votes cast, 15 were invalid. C.P. Radhakrishnan got 452 first preference votes, while Justice B Sudarshan Reddy fetched 300, an election official said in a press statement.
This Vice-Presidential election has thrown up the 150-vote margin win which is one of the lowest in VP polls given the fact that former VP Jadgeep Dhankar, in 2022, had defeated Opposition candidate Margaret Alva with the highest margin in the last six VP polls, securing 528 to 182.
According to media reports, at least 15 MPs have cross-voted in favour of the NDA candidate.
One of the BJP’s tallest figures in Tamil Nadu, C.P. Radhakrishnan rose from an RSS Swayamsevak to becoming India’s Vice President with over four decades of political experience and leadership.
