Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake an official visit to France and Slovakia from June 13 to 18, marking another significant step in India’s engagement with Europe and its broader diplomatic outreach on the global stage.
The visit was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday and will include participation in the G7 Summit in France as well as a State Visit to Slovakia.
France, the current G7 chair, has invited Prime Minister Modi to attend the summit scheduled to be held in Évian-les-Bains from June 15 to 17. The gathering is expected to bring together leaders of the world’s major advanced economies to deliberate on pressing global issues, including economic growth, geopolitical stability, energy security, climate challenges, and emerging technologies.
India’s participation reflects its growing role in global decision-making and its importance as a key voice representing the Global South. Prime Minister Modi has been a regular invitee to recent G7 summits, underscoring India’s increasing strategic relevance in international affairs.
On the sidelines of the summit, Modi is expected to engage with several world leaders. Media reports have indicated the possibility of interactions with leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and other heads of state attending the summit. However, details of bilateral meetings are yet to be officially announced.
The second leg of the visit will take the Prime Minister to Slovakia, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Robert Fico and other senior leaders. According to the MEA, the visit will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country’s independence, making it a landmark moment in bilateral relations.
The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, innovation, defence, and people-to-people exchanges. Slovakia has emerged as an important partner within Central Europe, and both sides are looking to strengthen economic and strategic engagement.
The Europe tour comes at a time when India is intensifying its partnerships across the continent amid evolving geopolitical dynamics and efforts to diversify economic and technological collaborations. Analysts view the visit as part of New Delhi’s broader strategy to deepen ties with European partners while advancing cooperation in critical sectors such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and global governance.
As India continues to expand its international influence, the visit is expected to reinforce strategic partnerships, strengthen economic linkages, and further elevate India’s profile in key multilateral forums.
