India had transformed from power-deficit to a power-sufficient nation, says Union Minister of Power
India’s energy mix – as of April 2015 – accounts for 49% Renewable Energy – it has headed for a straight jump from 32% in 2014, PTI quoted Union Power Minister Manohar Lal as saying on June 6, 2025 at the Regional Conference for the Northern Region States/UTs in Chandigarh.
The minister further said that states should augment the power generation mix with the addition of nuclear generation capacity while increasing the uptake of smart metres in government establishments and colonies by August 2025, and in commercial, industrial and high-load consumers by Novemember 2025.
He also noted that the state utilities should focus on generation of additional resources and improve transparency and governance.
“We successfully met a peak demand of 250 GW in May 2024 and India has transformed from power-deficit to a power-sufficient nation and as of today, peak demand shortage is zero,” the minister was quoted as adding.
