Addressing TMC students’ foundation day rally in Kolkata on August 28, 2025, CM Mamata Banerjee brought up the issue of Bengali language wrongly referred to as ‘Bangladeshi language’ in some parts of India, saying, “Our national anthem and national song are originally written in Bengali language. Some people want us to forget a significant contribution of Bengalis in the freedom movement. We won’t bear with this linguistic error”.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee allegedly referred to the BJP which according to her is trying to diminish the role of Bengalis during the independence movement.
Highlighting the BJP’s role in exacting “linguistic terror” on Bengalis, the CM said she would not allow anyone to snatch people’s voting rights.
At the TMC’s students’ wing rally, CM Banerjee revealed that the BJP has set up over 500 teams in West Bengal to carry out surveys targeting deletion of names from the voters’ roll.
The CM further said, “You must yourself check whether your names are still there in the voters’ list. You must ensure you have Aadhar cards,” adding: “I will not let anyone snatch people’s voting rights till I am alive”.
CM Banerjee took a potshot at the Election Commission saying, “The EC is threatening our officers,” reminding the poll body that it’s jurisdiction applies for three months during elections, not all round the year.
Alleging the BJP of corruption and nepotism, CM Banerjee said, “While the BJP is looting the nation by getting involved in ‘corruption bhandar’ and nepotism, we have launched the ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ to empower women.
The CM also hit out at the CPI (M) government in Kerala for alleging that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose fled India fearing the British.
