Calling to action on collective resolve against acts of terror, Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit currently underway in Tianjin, China made an impassioned call out to member countries to join hands to take firm and decisive action to fight global terrorism.

Addressing the (SCO) summit, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to member countries for extending firm solidarity following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, adding that “no double standards” attitude needs to be adopted to tackle terrorism.

Condemning the Pahalgam attack killing over 26 civilians, the member states said perpetrators, organisers and sponsors of terror attacks must be brought to book.

The member states also “strongly” condemned the Pahalgam attack, which left 26 civilians dead, and expressed their “deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the dead and the wounded”.

PM Modi further implored the member countries to hold accountable those who “perpetrate and support cross-border terrorism”.

The Tianjin summit also witnessed PM Modi holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This Modi-Putin meet assumes significance on the backdrop of the US President Donald Trump slapping extra penalty on India over its purchase of crude oil from Moscow.

Earlier, PM Modi is said to have had a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and raised the issue of cross-border terrorism.

According to a report on NDTV, both leaders pledged to sort out their border differences and strengthen cooperation.

It’s the fifth time China hosted the SCO summit and this edition has been billed as the largest in SCO’s history.
